VW: We will not enter in F1 image

A while ago there was some rumors about VW entering in F1. However, according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Ferdinand Piech, the VW Chairman, has decided not to approve an F1 bid.

The Deutsche Presse-Agentur agency has also received word from VW Group headquarters that “there are no concrete plans (for F1).”

Volkswagen has been evaluating the possibility of using the same route Porsche used to enter the Formula 1 and speculations suggest that it would leave Audi in the spotlight for its sportscar programme and Volkswagen will continue producing for Rally.

FAZ said VW is still interested in entering the world rally championship, as well as operating two programmes – with Porsche and Audi – at Le Mans.

Interestingly, the report said Red Bull and McLaren had expressed their interest in being supplied engines by Volkswagen.
