Wagon aficionados can snatch the Audi RS4 Avant, now on sale in Europe image

For some, the station wagon body style is not that car you buy because you have kids and lots of groceries – it’s the all-in-one car, good for the Tuesday opera and the Sunday morning picnic.

For some it’s also going to be the weekend track car – in which case their attention is certainly going to be grabbed by the arrival of the new Audi RS4 Avant at select dealerships across the Old Continent. This latest member of the ever expanding RS roster is a hefty €79,800 in Germany and £61,625 in the United Kingdom before even adding any optional equipment – for example the RS dynamic package that will take the electronic top speed limiter up a notch until you hit 174 mph (280 kph) – hopefully the unrestricted Autobahn or the track.

For those weekend track aficionados some other options to take into consideration might be the ceramic brakes and sportier suspension setup with mechanical Dynamic Ride Control. Just like with the new RS5 Coupe, Audi has decided to downsize from the V8 of old to the new biturbo 2.9-liter V6 engine with 450 horsepower (331 kilowatts) and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters). With the same power as the V8, but with increased torque and less weight (80 kilograms – 176 pounds), the new RS4 Avant is thundering to 62 mph / 100 kph in a mere 4.1 seconds.
