We want to live like this – oldest Mustang GT driver is 97 image

We’re all being told that age is just a number – what’s important is how you live those years. And we forget about that the next minute – caught in the daily, stressful lives we all live.

Take Lennart Ribring of Sweden for example – his personal gift for turning 97 years old was a brand new Ford Mustang GT. He is a former Swedish businessman, so at the twilight he decided to have a “little fun in life,” so at 97 he now uses a brand new Ford Mustang GT as his daily driver. He was actually born just 11 years after the original Model T’s introduction, in 1919, and got his driver’s license at 18 in 1937. His Mustang love goes a long way too – because he was among the first Swedes to pack an original Mustang in the 1960s, and now, more than half a century later he may very well be the world’s oldest Mustang driver.

“I fell in love with the first Mustangs that came out and I have hardly thought about another car since. You felt a bit like king of the road.” said Lennart. “I don’t have long to live now, maybe. So, I want to take the opportunities I have to drive and have a little fun in life. This is the real thing.” We grant that his new Mustang is fairly speedier than his first from the 1960s – thanks to the 5.0-liter V8 massaged for 435 horsepower (324 kilowatts), enabling the GT to sprint to 60 mph (96 kmh) in just 4.8 seconds, and go on until the sped limiter comes into effect at 155 mph (250 km/h).
