A wealthy drag queen bought Freddie Mercury’s Rolls-Royce.
Andrey Danilko, known for his drag name Verka Serduchka, who once represented Ukraine at Eurovision, is the one who purchased Freddie Mercurys’ Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 74, which went up for auction earlier this month at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, England. The Russian businessman offered £74,600 ($118,000), six times more the vehicles guide price.
As Verka Serduchka, the singer got the second place at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Dancing Lasha Tumbai’. Danilko said he plans to donate the car to a Queen museum, which will open later this year.
“I bought the car not to drive it, but to preserve it to fans of the Queen!” said Danilko.
The car also came with two other personal items belonging to Freddie Mercury: a box of Kleenex Mansize tissues and a bottle of perfume, which Danilko plans to keep for himself. The irony is that Mercury never drove the Rolls Royce as he had no driving licence, but he was chauffeured in its from 1979 until he died in 1991.
