Webber wins the British GP at Silverstone image

Red Bull driver Mark Webber won today the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Webber passed pole-sitter Alonso with just four laps remaining. The Australian’s Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel was third as British pair Lewis Hamilton and McLaren team-mate Jenson Button finished eighth and 11th respectively.

“Thanks guys. A great day for me,” Webber said on the car radio.

For Red Bull, it is the team’s third victory of the 2012 Formula One (F1) season. It is the first race this season that both Red Bull teammates have finished on the podium. Team boss Christian Horner said, “It was a great team result in front of a great home crowd.”

It was a thrilling finish, but Alonso proved a sitting duck on the option tyre – which this weekend was significantly slower. Webber made his DRS work and a fantastic pass to complete the victory.
