Cadillac says that charging our phones with complicated plugs, twisted cords and bulky chargers will stay in our past starting next year.
The premium marquee from GM is close to launching a new way to wirelessly recharge your device’s battery. The “Powermat” idea has been in development for a few years now and it is finally ready to debut for all Cadillac future owners and lovers from a distance. The wireless phone charging pad is set to make its public debut along with the revised ATS, totally refreshed for 2015. Cadillac has created and allocated a rubberized area of the center stack for charging purposes. You can simply place your phone (which has to be supported, compatible with the charger) on it and power gets replenishes. It is located behind a storage bin in the car that rests behind “the fully motorized center instrument panel faceplate.”
Ryan Sanderson, associate director Power Supply & Storage Components at HIS Technology explained why the carmaker decided to go ahead and include this wireless phone charging pad in its 2015 ATS: “A recent survey from IHS revealed that 70 percent of consumers charge their mobile phone at least once per day, with 30 percent charging more than once.”
So, for all of us out there, stuck in traffic in our Cadillacs, we can now be thankful our phones’ batteries will not give up on us when needed.
