The ongoing Geneva Motor Show has also marked the important reveal of the finalists for the World Car of the year competition, organized by the World Car Awards.
The main category of the World Car of the Year includes the Audi A4 / A4 Avant, the Mazda MX-5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. Meanwhile, the 2016 World Luxury Car of the Year award will choose its winner among the Audi Q7, BMW 7 Series and Volvo XC90 models. The Ingolstadt-based carmaker also has the potential to bring another prize home – the title of World Performance Car will be decided between the Audi R8, the Honda Civic Type R and the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe. At the other end of the fence sits the green section where the Chevrolet Volt will have to fend off against the assault of the Toyota Mirai and Toyota Prius to bring home the title of 2016 World Green Car. There’s also a beauty pageant going on – the World Car Design of the Year award will be decided between the Jaguar XE, Mazda CX-3 and Mazda MX-5.
The 73 international automotive journalists will deliberate to decide on the winners in each category and the results will be announced during the New York International Auto Show on March 24. Our personal favorite is the Mazda MX-5 and we’re hoping the green car award will go to the Toyota Mirai as a way of acknowledging the automaker’s courage to introduce in series production the fuel cell technology.
