This year’s Geneva International Auto Show certainly had a lot of surprises for the worldwide audience – but we’re pretty sure no one was expecting a European competitor for the second-generation Tesla Roadster.
Yet the Croatian electric supercar manufacturer Rimac Automobili has managed to deliver the sweeping blow – presenting in front of the unsuspecting audience their new C_2 electric hypercar, a model that’s certainly in league with Tesla’s new Roadster in terms of specifications that border on the unbelievable. Apparently, it’s scheduled to come in 2020 with 1914 hp (1,408 kilowatts) and 1,696 pound-feet (2,300 Newton-meters) of torque – and will rival Tesla’s 10,000 Nm with a wheel torque 1st gear of 17,047 Nm… More importantly, it allegedly beats the Roadster’s 60 mph time of 1.9 seconds by getting there in… 1.85 seconds (and 1.97 seconds to 100 kph). The quarter mile time is a bit slower… at 9.1 seconds compared to 8.8 seconds.
Interestingly, it also allegedly comes with Level 4 autonomous capabilities – that means the human can hand over the control to the car and the system will be able to perform in any situation without human intervention. The navigation system can even load race tracks and deliver the video-game ideal racing lines and braking points. You can’t argue much about the design, which also features active aero flaps at the front, while the body is dressing up a carbon fiber monocoque and carbon subframe. Maximum speed stands at 412 km/h / 258 mph and range reaches up to 650 km NEDC thanks to the 120 kWh Lithium Manganese Nickel battery that can also be charged at fast charging 250 kW DC Combo facilities for an 80 Percent surge in half an hour.
