BMW plans hotter i8 for next year image

A hardcore version of the current BMW i8 is being considered by the German based automaker and this should be out sometimes next year.

The BMW i8 is already one hot ride to own, but what if this would become even hotter? Well, you may say that we are dreaming, but we are not, because thanks to a recent report, we now know that the company is at least considering the development of such a model. According to the guys from AutoExpress, who are quoting sources within the company, the high performance version of the current i8 is expected to be launched sometimes next year, in time to celebrate the carmaker’s centenary.

The main changes which will be made to the “green” sports car will be the significant weight loss and the added power. The carmaker is stating that the current version of the car has the ability of coping with an extra 300 HP, but don’t expect such a significant modification and, also, don’t expect it to get some M badges on it, because that will not happen. At this time, the 1.5L three-cylinder petrol burner is working together with an electric motor and the total output produced stands at 357 HP and 570 Nm of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration takes just 4.4 seconds in it and top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). If this version of the i8 will turn out to be true, than it may steel the light from other hotter models even more than the current i8 did.
