A museum dedicated to cars of secret agent James Bond is to open in the small town of Momence, Illinois.
Scheduled to open in 2012 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first Bond movie, The Museum of Bond Vehicles + Espionage will display the collection of the Ian Fleming Foundation, including the world’s largest collection of vehicles used in James Bond films.
The facility will sit on the bones of an old car dealership and scheduled to get a complete makeover, with the front glass cleverly sporting an etched “007” logo made up of the names of actors and movies. (Note the seven-shaped window frame.)
“If this draws in 20,000 people a year, like they’re planning on, Momence will see a major resurgence,” says Gensler’s design director for the project, Brian Vitale, who notes that the museum could have easily been located somewhere like Chicago or Vegas. “They’re going through a lot of hurdles to make sure it stays here.”
