Ford plans to bring the Fiesta-based EcoSport SUV in Europe within the next 12 months, John Gardiner, Director, News Operations, Ford of Europe told us.
However, the Ford official did not disclose the name of the plant that will build the EcoSport for Europe. Currently, the small SUV is built in Brazil for Latin American markets and in India for the local market and other Asia-Pacific markets.
“The EcoSport will be launched in Europe in the next 12 months, but we have not indicated its manufacturing source at this time,” Gardiner told us via e-mail.
Asked whether the EcoSport may be built in Ford’s Romanian plant of Craiova, John Gardiner did not confirm, but said the carmaker plans to manufacture a second model in Craiova in the future.
“We have just started volume production of the Ford B-MAX and 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in Craiova, and we will begin building a second volume engine in Craiova – a 1.5-litre petrol engine – early in 2013. We have also confirmed that it is planned to build a second vehicle in Romania in the future,” Gardiner added.
The Ford B-MAX MPV, which is exclusively built in the Craiova plant, is also based on the Fiesta platform.
