Schumacher Showing ‘Small Improvements’, Manager Confirms in Barcelona
Michael Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm says the seven-time world champion is making small steps in recovery, but stresses the process remains slow and difficult.
Michael Schumacher is making “small improvements” in his recovery, according to his manager Sabine Kehm, who spoke to media at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. Kehm, who now also manages Schumacher’s son Mick, said the Formula One legend’s progress remains slow and the path ahead is still long.
Schumacher, 46 at the time, suffered a severe head injury in a skiing accident in December 2013. Since then, updates on his condition have been rare and closely guarded by his family. Kehm told Sky Italia that while there are signs of progress, the recovery is far from complete and the situation remains serious.
In the months leading up to the Spanish Grand Prix, Schumacher’s wife Corinna reportedly sold the family’s private jet and their holiday home in Norway. The German magazine Bunte suggested these decisions reflected a realisation that Schumacher may never return to his former self. The family has not commented publicly on these reports.
Attention turns to Mick Schumacher
As Michael’s recovery continues out of the public eye, attention in the paddock has shifted to his son Mick, then 16, who was starting his own single-seater career. Kehm, present in Barcelona to support Mick, is guiding him through the early stages of racing. The challenges faced by children of famous drivers have drawn comment from others in the sport, with Carlos Sainz Jr noting the pressure and scrutiny that comes with a famous name.
