Maserati Levante SUV confirmed for 2016 launch
Maserati will bring its first SUV, the Levante, to market by the end of next year, with production set for Turin and a range of V6 and V8 engines planned.
Maserati has confirmed that its Levante SUV will go on sale by the end of next year, marking the Italian marque’s first entry into the luxury SUV segment. Production will take place at the Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, as part of Maserati’s wider strategy to expand its global line-up.
Previewed by the Kubang concept and seen in recent spy photographs, the Levante will share its platform with the Ghibli saloon. Maserati will adapt its Q4 all-wheel drive system for the SUV, aiming for on-road handling in line with the brand’s reputation while adding the practicality expected in the segment.
Engine range and technical details
The Levante’s engine line-up is expected to include the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol, producing 410hp, and the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, rated at 530hp. A 3.0-litre V6 diesel, delivering 271hp, is also planned, targeting key European markets where diesel SUVs remain in demand.
The Levante is a central part of Maserati’s plan to broaden its appeal and increase global sales. The model will join upcoming additions such as the Alfieri coupe and convertible, along with a new GranTurismo replacement.
