Mercedes Signals Willingness for Hamilton MotoGP Test
Mercedes has indicated it would allow Lewis Hamilton to test a MotoGP bike, with support from Yamaha and key sponsors making the proposal feasible.
Mercedes has confirmed it would not stand in the way of Lewis Hamilton testing a MotoGP bike, as the reigning Formula One world champion expresses interest in sampling two-wheeled racing at the highest level.
Hamilton has previously spoken about his early fascination with motorcycles, saying that he originally wanted a motorbike before moving into karting as a child. His enthusiasm for MotoGP has been public, and he has stated he would like to try a premier-class machine to understand the experience first-hand.
Yamaha and Mercedes: Shared Sponsors and Support
The most natural fit for a Hamilton MotoGP test is Yamaha, which shares Monster Energy as a major sponsor with the Mercedes Formula One team. Yamaha's MotoGP line-up includes Valentino Rossi, one of the sport's most recognisable figures and a long-time Monster ambassador. The shared sponsorship simplifies logistics and marketing, and both teams have indicated openness to the idea.
Yamaha MotoGP boss Lin Jarvis has described the proposal as an interesting idea, though he emphasised that it remains only a possibility at this stage. Rossi himself has said he would be interested to see Hamilton try the Yamaha, reflecting the mutual respect between the two racing disciplines.
No Obstacle from Mercedes Management
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has stated that the team would not object to Hamilton taking part in a MotoGP test, describing it as a fun idea and noting that Hamilton already has some experience riding motorcycles. With no contractual or management barrier, the main hurdle remains scheduling and agreement with Yamaha for a suitable test opportunity.
For Hamilton, who has already demonstrated versatility across different racing formats, a MotoGP test would be a personal ambition rather than a career move. There is no suggestion he would race in MotoGP competitively, but the crossover event would attract considerable attention from both Formula One and motorcycle racing audiences.

At present, the MotoGP test remains an idea rather than a scheduled event.
