Vettel Unfazed by Webber’s Upcoming Autobiography
Sebastian Vettel says he has no concerns about Mark Webber’s forthcoming book, which is expected to detail their turbulent years as Red Bull teammates.
Sebastian Vettel has said he is unconcerned about what Mark Webber might reveal in his forthcoming autobiography, despite the book’s promise to cover their high-profile clashes as Red Bull teammates. Webber’s memoir, titled ‘Aussie Grit’, is due for publication in July and is expected to provide a frank account of his Formula One career, including the years spent alongside Vettel at Red Bull Racing.
Speaking ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Vettel addressed speculation that the book would reignite old tensions. He stated that, contrary to public perception, his relationship with Webber has improved since their time as rivals. Both drivers endured a fractious partnership, most notably during the 2010 and 2013 seasons when team orders and on-track incidents led to open disagreements.
Vettel confirmed that Webber had spoken to him about the book’s content. The Ferrari driver said he respects Webber’s right to tell his side of the story and has no issue with whatever is published. Vettel added that, despite past difficulties, there is now “tremendous respect” between them and that their communication is better than many believe.
Red Bull rivalry revisited
The partnership between Vettel and Webber was one of the most scrutinised in recent Formula One history. Their rivalry peaked during incidents such as the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix, when Vettel ignored team orders and overtook Webber for the win, leading to public criticism and strained relations. Webber left Red Bull at the end of that season, moving on to a successful stint in sports car racing.
Webber’s book is expected to shed light on these episodes from his perspective. While some former teammates have used memoirs to settle scores, Vettel’s relaxed response suggests he does not expect any lasting fallout from whatever is revealed in ‘Aussie Grit’.
