Chevrolet decided to show off its latest high-performance coupe at the Camaro Homecoming event in Oshawa, Ontario.
Responsible for this amazing car, Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser brought the car to the crowd, and then spent a few moments talking about the ZL1 on camera.
While GM has never stated an actual power number for the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, many have expected that their estimation of 550 horsepower would more likely be the same 556 horsepower offered by the Cadillac CTS-V.
However, rumor is that new top getaway car for convenience store thieves and trailer park thugs has just SAE tested out at 570hp.
Oppenheiser has also commented in the past that the ZL1 will get the ZR1′s Performance Traction Management system, transforming any idiot into Jimmie Johnson.
Given the incessant rumors Ford may enter the 600-horsepower+ realm with its next GT500, it’s very likely Chevy will step up its game with the ZL1 in order to stay in the game.
The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will become the company’s new flagship model and will rekindle the spirit of the original ZL1 of 1969. The classic model was one of Chevrolet’s fastest ever cars at the time, showcasing a 427 cubic-inch V8 producing upwards of 330kW.
