McLaren has just released pricing for the United States on its first road car in nearly a decade. For McLaren’s much-anticipated new MP4-12C, the price will be $229,000, though that doesn’t include a destination fee or gas guzzler tax.
That’s about $4000 more than a Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren’s main competitor.
However, at 592 horsepower from the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine and a total weight of just 2,900 pounds the 2012 MP4-12C is more powerful and lighter than the Ferrari 458 Italia. This power will be sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, allowing the new McLaren to accelerate from 0 to 124mph (200kmh) in under 10 seconds and reach top speeds in excess of 200mph.

Options will include carbon-fiber mirror casings, engine bay panels and engine cover. There will be a set of performance upgrades also; a sports exhaust system, carbon-ceramic brake discs, polished-finish calipers and two lightweight forged wheel options.
Expect ordering details to be released soon, but if you haven’t put your name on the waiting list already, then you will have to wait until 2013.
The EPA has not announced fuel economy numbers on the MP4-12C.
