Toyota has unveiled the third generation of Yaris, which goes on sale in the UK this summer.
According to the automaker, it will feature the intelligent interior packaging that made the predecessors so popular, along with a high-end touch screen multimedia interface, which will be standard on most models.
This newfangled Touch & Go technology includes touchscreen control for the radio, CD/MP3 player and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a USB port and the always-handy rearview camera. It also offers real-time traffic updates, licence-saving speed camera warnings and customisable speed limits.
Like the model it replaces, the new Yaris will be built at Toyota’s Valenciennes plant in France. Three engines will be available, the 1-litre and 1.33-litre petrol engines familiar to drivers of the Toyota IQ, and a 1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine.
Toyota hope the new Yaris will contribute towards its target of one million annual sales in Europe. Didier Leroy, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe, said:
“The new Yaris represents Toyota’s strongest offering yet in the important super-mini segment.
“With its new levels of ingenuity, efficiency and quality, we are confident it can build upon Yaris’s previous success and help Toyota rejuvenate its presence in Europe.”
