BMW launches 2015 X5 F15 online configurator
BMW has made its online configurator for the 2015 X5 F15 live, allowing buyers to explore trim, engine and equipment options, though pricing remains unlisted.
BMW has opened its online configurator for the 2015 X5 F15, giving prospective buyers and dealers the ability to explore the full range of engine choices, specifications and options for the new-generation SUV. The configurator went live shortly after the official unveiling of the F15 X5, but as of launch, BMW had not published detailed pricing for the UK market.
The F15 marks the third generation of BMW’s X5 and introduces updated styling, a revised interior and new technology options. The configurator allows users to select between several engine variants, including the xDrive50i petrol V8, the xDrive30d diesel and the performance-focused M50d tri-turbo diesel. Each model can be customised with a choice of exterior colours, alloy wheels, interior trims and equipment packages.
Engine options and performance
At launch, the X5 F15 range includes the xDrive50i with a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine producing 450hp and 650Nm of torque. BMW claims a 0-100km/h time of 5.0 seconds and official combined fuel consumption of 10.5 litres per 100km. The xDrive30d is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel with 258hp and 560Nm, while the M50d uses a tri-turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel delivering 381hp and 740Nm. All engines are paired with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an automatic transmission.
| xDrive50i | 4.4L V8 petrol, 450hp, 650Nm |
|---|---|
| xDrive30d | 3.0L I6 diesel, 258hp, 560Nm |
| M50d | 3.0L I6 tri-turbo diesel, 381hp, 740Nm |
BMW’s configurator also gives access to the full suite of optional extras, including adaptive suspension, advanced safety features, and upgraded infotainment systems. Buyers can preview their chosen specification in 3D, making it easier to visualise combinations before ordering through a dealer.
No pricing at launch
While the configurator includes all available options and trims, BMW had not released official UK pricing for the 2015 X5 F15 at the time the tool went live. This means buyers can explore configurations but cannot yet calculate a final on-the-road price. Pricing details are expected to follow as the model moves closer to its market launch.
Context and related launches
BMW’s approach mirrors recent moves by other manufacturers, such as Hyundai, which launched a configurator for the 2015 Sonata, and Volkswagen, which brought the Passat configurator online for US buyers. Configurators have become a standard tool for both marketing and sales, allowing customers to interact with new models ahead of showroom arrivals.
For buyers and dealers, the configurator provides an early opportunity to compare specifications and options, streamlining the ordering process once pricing is confirmed. The new X5 is positioned to compete with other premium SUVs in its segment, with the F15 generation focusing on technology, efficiency and customisation.
