The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced on Tuesday that it’s investigating the 2009 made Honda Odyssey minivans because of liftgate failure causing some injuries.
According to the NHTSA, a preliminary investigation has been opened after the agency received seven complaints regarding the unexpected closing of the vehicle’s liftgate on both the Touring and the EX-L versions.
However there were no complaints regarding the 2008 or 2010 made Odysseys and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that around 20.000 units of the 2009 Honda minivan are being investigated.
The seven owners that complained about the liftgate problem said that the gas-filled liftgate struts failed and were unable to support the liftgatte when it was in the open position. Out of the seven complaints that the NHTSA received, two of them leaded to injuries.
The North American Division of Honda didn’t comment on the problem for now but a possible recall is in the books. No crashes have been reported.
