The new Seat Leon generation is now the official Italian police car as the automaker has officially announced.

The Carabinieri and the Polizia di Stato are famous for their impressive vehicle collection which include the Alfa Romeo 159s, the Lotus Evora S and others but the entire vehicle lineup has been updated with the introduction of the Seat Leon, in the five-door hatchback version. The Spanish vehicles have received the official police and Carabinieri livery on it and they have several modifications made to them, compared to the regular ones.

“We are honored by the trust given by the Italian police in SEAT and the Leon. And we are very proud to be able to contribute thanks to reliable, secure and high quality vehicles to public safety,” says Jürgen Stackmann, Chairman of the Executive Committee of SEAT. “The contract is also a good example of the great success and major growth of the SEAT brand within the fleet business sector.”

The Seat Leon vehicles are coming with a 2.0 liter TDI diesel engine under their hoods, producing a total of 150 HP. The vehicles have also received a modified suspension system, police radios, special tires, weapon holders, emergency lights and the rear seat “prisoner cell”. The models are also coming with some armoring, which is protecting the occupants against small arms fire. A total of 206 cars have been delivered so far but over the next three years, no less than 4,000 models will be ordered.
