Subaru will bring an updated BRZ STI concept, a BRZ Black Edition by Prova, and the Impreza G4 STI concept to the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, expanding its display of performance and customisation options for its latest models. The event, scheduled for January, will mark the Japanese debut of these concepts following earlier international appearances.

BRZ STI Concept: Tokyo Update

The BRZ STI concept shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon will differ from the version previously displayed at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Subaru has equipped the Tokyo car with a carbon fibre bonnet and roof, a front under spoiler, an STI-branded trunk spoiler, sport muffler, flexible tower bar, lower springs, Bilstein dampers, Brembo brakes and 18-inch STI alloy wheels. The focus remains on handling and weight reduction rather than outright power, with no turbocharged engine confirmed for this concept. BRZ Black Edition by Prova

Subaru will also display the BRZ Black Edition by Prova, a custom project from the Japanese tuning house. While full details have not been released, Prova is known for its racing and performance parts, suggesting the car will showcase aftermarket options tailored to the BRZ platform. The Black Edition will appear alongside Subaru's own STI concept, giving showgoers two distinct takes on the new rear-wheel-drive coupé.

Impreza G4 STI Concept

The Impreza G4 STI concept is based on the new Impreza G4 2.0i-S saloon. Subaru has given this model a suite of STI-branded upgrades, including a front under spoiler, side under spoiler, rear trunk spoiler, skirt lip, sport muffler, flexible tower bar, low-down springs, 18-inch alloy wheels and a stainless steel mesh brake hose. The car also receives an STI shift knob for the CVT gearbox. These modifications are aimed at enhancing the G4's appearance and handling, rather than increasing power output.

  • Impreza WRX STI
  • Impreza WRX STI Group R4
  • Legacy B4 GT300
  • BRZ GT300
  • Boxer plus Next generation D4-S engine

Subaru's Tokyo Auto Salon stand will also include competition and production models, such as the Impreza WRX STI, the WRX STI Group R4 rally car, and the BRZ GT300 race car. The company will also display its next-generation Boxer engine with D4-S direct injection technology.

Focus on Customisation and Motorsport

The 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon line-up underlines Subaru's strategy of promoting factory and aftermarket customisation, as well as its ongoing motorsport activities. The presence of both STI and Prova concepts demonstrates the brand's willingness to cater to enthusiasts seeking performance and visual upgrades. No production dates or pricing details for these concept parts have been announced at this stage.
