The BMW M guys are really busy this year. After we saw a new engine that debuted on the 2015 BMW M3 and M4 models, another new addition might come for the current generation F85 X5 SUV.
While the new S55 unit is only used for the smaller batch of M3/M4 models, the bigger sibling, the S63 engine is found in a wide variety of bodies: as the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine is employed under the hoods of the M5, M6 Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe and E71 X6 M.
The now retired E70 X5 M and the X6 m model used an older version of the S63 unit – which outed only 555 hp – the newer S63B44T0 has 560 hp and a bigger torque.
So, after we are treated to the F85 X5 M model on the race track of the famous Nurburgring, we are definitely keeping our hopes up for at least that newer version, if not for a completely reworked engine that would further improve the big SUV’s performance over its last generation.
With testing already well on its way, we’re also hoping to see the new generation X5 M before the year’s end – maybe just in time for the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
