Mercedes-Benz has launched a new promotional video for the CLA45 AMG, placing its compact performance saloon in the spotlight with a night-time drive through Paris. The film emphasises the car’s blend of style and performance, aiming to reinforce its appeal among buyers considering an entry point into the AMG range.

CLA45 AMG: entry-level performance for the AMG brand

The CLA45 AMG, launched as a four-door coupe, shares its mechanical package with the A45 AMG hatchback. Both models use Mercedes’ 2.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 355hp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 450Nm available between 2,250 and 5,000rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT dual-clutch transmission and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, supporting brisk acceleration and strong grip in poor conditions.

The CLA45 AMG’s positioning as the most affordable AMG model is central to its marketing. Buyers get a car that delivers performance figures close to larger, more expensive AMG saloons, but in a compact and more accessible package. The new video underlines this message, with the car’s Parisian setting reinforcing the model’s urban sophistication.

Features and equipment

Standard equipment on the CLA45 AMG includes power-adjustable front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a 5.8-inch central display, Bluetooth connectivity, paddle shifters, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a dual exhaust system and 18-inch alloy wheels. These features are designed to deliver a premium experience without pushing the price into the territory of larger AMG models.

Position in the AMG range

With the CLA45 AMG and its hatchback sibling, the A45 AMG, Mercedes-Benz aimed to broaden the AMG customer base. Both models offered a route into AMG ownership that was previously unavailable, sitting below the likes of the C63 AMG and E63 AMG in both size and price. The CLA45 AMG’s coupe styling and performance credentials are intended to attract younger buyers who might otherwise look to hot hatches or rivals such as the Audi S3 Saloon.
