2013 Subaru WRX STI arrives in Malaysia at RM249,000
Subaru has introduced the 2013 WRX STI sedan to the Malaysian market, offering its 300 PS turbocharged performance and all-wheel drive at RM249,000 on the road.
Subaru has launched the 2013 WRX STI in Malaysia, offering the high-performance sedan at an on-the-road price of RM249,000. The model arrives as a four-door only, dropping the Impreza name and hatchback body previously available in earlier generations.
The 2013 WRX STI uses Subaru’s familiar 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine, producing 300 PS and 407 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, with a five-speed automatic available as an option. Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system and Vehicle Dynamics Control are included, aiming to deliver secure handling and traction in all conditions.
Specification highlights
- 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine
- 300 PS at 6,000 rpm
- 407 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm
- Six-speed manual transmission (five-speed automatic optional)
- All-wheel drive with VDC and traction control
- Four-door saloon body style
This generation’s move to a saloon-only format positions the WRX STI directly against rivals such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, which is also sold in Malaysia as a four-door. The hatchback variant, available in previous years, is no longer offered. Subaru’s decision to drop the Impreza badge reflects a broader strategy to distinguish the WRX STI as a standalone performance model.
Performance and market context
With 300 PS and all-wheel drive, the WRX STI remains one of the most powerful Japanese performance saloons available in Malaysia at this price point. Its closest competitor, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, is priced lower but offers similar power and a comparable all-wheel drive system. The WRX STI’s manual gearbox and rally-bred mechanicals continue to appeal to driving enthusiasts seeking an alternative to more mainstream sports saloons.
Subaru’s Malaysian distributor is positioning the WRX STI as a flagship performance model. The price of RM249,000 includes local taxes and on-the-road costs, putting it in contention with both Japanese and European rivals in the segment. Buyers receive a well-equipped car with a focus on performance and active safety, though the WRX STI’s interior and features remain closer to its rallying roots than luxury saloons at a similar price.
