Volvo has brought its facelifted V70, XC70 and S80 models to the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, offering updated styling and equipment for the brand’s largest estate, crossover and saloon. The changes are designed to refresh the range as Volvo prepares for the next generation of its large cars.

Exterior Updates for 2014

The V70 estate receives a new rear bumper, fresh tailpipe finishers, additional chrome details and redesigned taillights. The XC70, Volvo’s rugged all-road estate, adopts a larger front grille with a more prominent ironmark badge, new daytime running lights, matte silver trim and revised skidplates. The S80 saloon features new front and rear bumpers intended to give the car a wider, lower stance, as well as rectangular daytime running lights. All three models now offer 19-inch alloy wheels as an option, without compromising ride comfort, according to Volvo.

  • 2014 Volvo V70: revised rear styling, new chrome and lights, optional 19-inch wheels
  • 2014 Volvo XC70: larger grille, updated ironmark, off-road detailing, new lights
  • 2014 Volvo S80: new bumpers, rectangular daytime running lights, wider appearance

Interior and Equipment Changes

Volvo has focused on enhancing comfort and perceived quality inside its largest models. Materials and trim options have been updated, and new technology features are available, though specific details on infotainment or safety upgrades were not fully disclosed at the show. The company emphasises a “human-centric” approach, highlighting comfort and usability as key priorities for the facelifted range. Volvo claims the new 19-inch wheels do not compromise ride comfort on any of the facelifted models.

Target Audience and Market Position

The V70 continues to target family buyers seeking space and practicality, while the XC70’s raised ride height and protective cladding appeal to those needing light off-road ability. The S80 remains Volvo’s flagship saloon, aimed at executive customers. These facelifts are expected to keep the models competitive until their eventual replacement, with the V90 and S90 already in development for later years.

Design Philosophy and Volvo’s Human-Centric Approach

Volvo’s long-standing commitment to a human-centric design philosophy is reflected in these updates. The company has a history of prioritising occupant comfort, safety and usability, which continues in the 2014 V70, XC70 and S80. By updating both the exterior and interior, Volvo intends to maintain the models’ appeal in a competitive segment, while offering subtle luxury and practicality.

Launch and Availability

Volvo has not confirmed exact on-sale dates or pricing for the updated V70, XC70 and S80, but more information is expected closer to their launch later in 2014. The facelifted models will be the last major update before Volvo’s large-car range moves to its next generation, previewed by the later V90 estate and S90 saloon.
