Opel Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition Debuts as Brand’s Most Powerful Hatch
Opel has launched the 2011 Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition, delivering 210PS and track-focused upgrades to top its hot hatch range.
Opel has introduced the Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition for 2011, positioning it as the fastest and most focused Corsa in the company’s line-up. Limited to 500 units, the Nürburgring Edition builds on the regular OPC with more power, a mechanical limited-slip differential and chassis modifications aimed at serious driving enthusiasts.
Powertrain and Performance Upgrades
The heart of the Nürburgring Edition is an uprated version of Opel’s 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Output climbs to 210PS (207bhp), up from the standard OPC’s 192PS, with peak torque of 250Nm and a temporary overboost function delivering up to 280Nm. The result is a 0-62mph time of 6.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 143mph, putting it at the sharp end of the hot supermini segment for 2011.
A mechanical multi-plate limited-slip differential, supplied by Drexler, is fitted to help manage the extra power and improve traction out of corners. This is a rare feature in the class, and marks the Nürburgring Edition as a more serious track tool than the standard OPC.
Chassis and Braking Enhancements
Opel has worked with Bilstein for bespoke chassis tuning, including new dampers and revised spring rates. The car sits lower than the standard OPC and rides on lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels. Braking is upgraded with larger Brembo front callipers. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres are specified to maximise grip, further underlining the car’s track credentials.
Styling and Interior Details
The Nürburgring Edition is distinguished by unique paint options, including the striking ‘Grasshopper’ green, and features a specific front splitter, dual exhausts and Nürburgring badging. Inside, the car gets Recaro seats with special logos, numbered plaques and carbon-effect trim to set it apart from the standard OPC.
Position in the Hot Hatch Market
With its limited production, mechanical differential and uprated chassis, the Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition targets keen drivers who might otherwise look to more expensive or larger hot hatches.
