2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class imagined as a hatchback
A new rendering visualises how a hatchback version of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class could look, though no production plans have been confirmed by the manufacturer.
A digital rendering of a hatchback variant for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has appeared online, giving a glimpse of how the model might look if Mercedes-Benz decided to expand the line-up beyond the saloon, estate and coupe. The rendering, created by Theophilus Chin, adapts the proportions of the new W205-generation C-Class to a five-door format.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the latest C-Class generation only weeks ago, with the initial line-up focused on the traditional saloon and, shortly after, the estate. The coupe and AMG variants have also been previewed in renderings and early leaks. The hatchback, however, remains a digital exercise rather than a confirmed addition to the range.
The current C-Class sits above the CLA in the Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, a move supported by a 10cm increase in length over the outgoing model, bringing it to 469cm. This adjustment leaves the entry-level premium hatchback role to the A-Class, while the CLA serves as a compact four-door coupe. Mercedes-Benz has not indicated any intention to introduce a C-Class hatchback, and the segment is already well covered by the A-Class and B-Class models.
Where the hatchback would fit in the Mercedes range
If Mercedes-Benz were to produce a C-Class hatchback, it would likely target buyers seeking more space and premium features than the A-Class, but without the estate’s extended rear. However, the current C-Class estate already covers the practical end of the line-up, while the A-Class and CLA hatchbacks and saloons address the compact premium market. There is little evidence of direct rivals in this hypothetical segment from BMW or Audi, as both the 3 Series and A4 focus on saloon and estate body styles.
Current C-Class line-up and engines
The 2015 C-Class is available in four petrol versions (C180, C200, C300, C400) and four diesel versions (C180, C200, C220, C250). Mercedes-Benz is also developing a diesel hybrid, and the C63 AMG is expected to join the range soon. For buyers interested in the estate, leaked images have already previewed its design, and the coupe has also been rendered by independent artists.
