Al Pacino, one of Hollywood’s most recognisable actors, has been seen driving a Range Rover, marking a clear preference for Land Rover’s flagship SUV over the Jeep Grand Cherokee he once promoted in a television advert. The sighting connects the Oscar-winning actor with the British luxury off-roader, a model known for its upmarket interior and strong road presence.

Pacino’s association with the Jeep Grand Cherokee was strictly professional. In 2014, his voice featured in a US commercial for the Grand Cherokee, using lines from his motivational speech in “Any Given Sunday.” Despite this, there’s no evidence he drives the American SUV himself. Instead, the actor has been seen in the Range Rover, a vehicle that sits at the top of Land Rover’s range and is known for its blend of luxury and off-road ability.

Range Rover: Pacino’s Choice of Luxury SUV

The fourth-generation Range Rover, introduced at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, brought a new aluminium-intensive architecture, reducing weight and improving efficiency compared to its predecessor. The model stretches nearly five metres in length and offers a spacious, high-quality cabin. Buyers can choose between a 3.0-litre V6 diesel, a 4.4-litre V8 diesel, and a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, all paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The Range Rover’s reputation for refinement and capability has made it a fixture among celebrities and high-profile owners worldwide.

Land Rover’s decision to focus the Range Rover on luxury and technology has paid off in sales. In 2013, the company reported over 45,000 units sold worldwide, not including the Range Rover Sport. The model’s upmarket appeal, especially in markets such as the US and UK, has helped cement its status as the go-to SUV for those seeking comfort, prestige and genuine off-road ability.

Celebrity SUV Preferences

Pacino’s choice is in line with a wider trend among celebrities opting for luxury SUVs over more traditional saloons or sports cars. The Range Rover’s combination of comfort, technology and status continues to attract actors, musicians and sports stars. Its position in the market is further strengthened by Land Rover’s ongoing efforts to update the model with new engines and features, keeping it competitive against rivals from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and others.
