Bentley has sold every Bentayga it will build in the SUV’s first production year, with more than 3,500 orders placed since the model’s unveiling at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The company confirmed that its initial production run is fully allocated, reflecting demand for what it calls the world’s most luxurious and powerful SUV.

The Bentayga’s starting price in the UK is £160,200, placing it at the top end of the SUV market. In the United States, the model starts from $229,000. Bentley has positioned the Bentayga as the most expensive SUV on sale, targeting buyers seeking exclusivity and high specification.

Bentayga’s technical specification

At launch, the Bentayga is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 petrol engine producing 608 PS (447 kW) and 900 Nm of torque. Bentley claims a 0-100 km/h time of just over 4 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is quoted at 12.8 litres per 100km, with CO2 emissions of 292 g/km. The car’s specification includes a 1950-watt Naim audio system and a rear-seat entertainment package with twin 10.2-inch tablets.

Customer profile and production outlook

Bentley’s customer base for the Bentayga includes both existing Bentley owners and buyers new to the brand, drawn by the combination of performance, luxury and SUV practicality. The first customer car is due to be delivered to Queen Elizabeth II. With the first year’s allocation now spoken for, new buyers will be waiting until at least the second year of production for delivery.

The Bentayga’s rapid sell-out places it ahead of rivals such as the Maserati Levante, which is due to launch in 2016, and highlights the current appetite for high-end SUVs. Bentley’s move into this segment follows similar plans from other luxury brands, including Lamborghini’s upcoming SUV.
