Skoda Fabia Named Safest Supermini by Euro NCAP for 2014
The new-generation Skoda Fabia achieved a five-star rating and topped its segment in Euro NCAP’s 2014 crash tests, reflecting strong results in all safety categories.
Skoda’s new Fabia has been named the safest car in the supermini segment by Euro NCAP for 2014, after securing a five-star rating in the organisation’s latest crash tests. The result places the Fabia at the top of its class for safety, ahead of 13 other small cars tested that year.
Euro NCAP’s assessment covered four key areas: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian safety and Safety Assist technologies. The Fabia achieved 84 percent for adult occupants and 81 percent for child protection, among the highest in its segment. Pedestrian safety was rated at 69 percent, while the Safety Assist category reached 69 percent, reflecting the inclusion of advanced driver aids as standard or available equipment.
In the adult occupant category, the Fabia earned 32 points, with Euro NCAP highlighting the car’s stable passenger compartment and good protection for both driver and passenger in frontal and side impacts. For child occupants, the Fabia scored 40 points, including near-maximum results for both 18-month and three-year-old dummies. The model’s restraint systems and clear ISOFIX labelling contributed to the strong performance.
Safety Assist and Pedestrian Protection
The Fabia’s Safety Assist rating was supported by features such as Front Assistant with integrated City Emergency Brake, multi-collision brake, Driver Activity Assistant, Hill Hold Control, speed limiter and tyre pressure monitoring. Some of these systems are standard from SE trim upwards, helping the Fabia to exceed the segment average for assist technology. The pedestrian protection score of 69 percent was achieved thanks to a bonnet and bumper design aimed at reducing injury risk to pedestrians in a collision.
Context within the Supermini Segment
Euro NCAP’s five-star rating for the Fabia places it among the safest small cars tested in 2014. The result follows a trend of rising safety standards in the segment, with manufacturers increasingly equipping superminis with advanced safety features formerly reserved for larger models.
