Leaked Images Reveal 2016 Renault Megane Ahead of Frankfurt Launch
Full exterior and interior images of the next-generation Renault Megane have surfaced online days before its planned debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Renault’s next-generation Megane has been revealed in a series of leaked images published online ahead of its official unveiling at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new model, expected to go on sale in 2016, shows a clear departure from its predecessor’s styling, adopting several design cues from the larger Renault Talisman.
The leaked photographs show the five-door hatchback in what appears to be the GT trim, distinguished by its aggressive front bumper, prominent rear diffuser, dual exhaust outlets and GT badging. The front end features Renault’s latest corporate grille, a large centrally-mounted logo, and C-shaped LED daytime running lights, echoing the look introduced on the Talisman saloon.
At the rear, the car adopts wide LED taillights that extend towards the centre of the bootlid, visually widening the stance. A roof spoiler and muscular haunches add to the sportier profile, bringing the Megane closer in appearance to the smaller Clio and aligning it with Renault’s current design direction.
Interior details and technology
The images also reveal a redesigned interior, with a digital instrument cluster and a prominent central touchscreen similar to those found in the Espace and Talisman. The GT model pictured features sports leather seats, paddle shifters for the automatic transmission, and dual-zone climate control. These updates suggest Renault is aiming to move the Megane upmarket in terms of technology and perceived quality.
No technical specifications have been confirmed in the leaked material, but the Megane is expected to share its platform with the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Kadjar, offering a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Full details will be announced at the Frankfurt show.
Comparison with previous Megane and rivals
Compared to the outgoing Megane, the new model adopts a more assertive stance and incorporates technology more commonly seen in Renault’s larger models. The styling also brings it closer to rivals such as the Peugeot 308 and Volkswagen Golf, both of which have recently been updated or replaced. The GT trim aims to attract buyers looking for a sportier alternative within the family hatchback segment.
