Nissan launches 2010 Murano with new LE FWD and added equipment
The 2010 Nissan Murano arrives in US showrooms with a new front-wheel drive LE model, updated standard features across the range and revised options for buyers.
Nissan has updated its Murano crossover for the 2010 model year, introducing a new LE front-wheel drive variant to the US range and adding equipment across all trim levels. The 2010 Murano is now available at dealers nationwide, with the lineup comprising S, SL and LE models, each offered in front-wheel drive or with Nissan’s Intuitive All-Wheel Drive system.
Power for every 2010 Murano comes from Nissan’s familiar 3.5-litre V6, producing 265 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque, paired with the Xtronic continuously variable transmission. The engine and transmission combination remains unchanged from the previous model year. Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive system designed to adjust torque distribution automatically for changing road conditions.
The new LE FWD model brings the highest trim level to buyers who do not require all-wheel drive, broadening the Murano’s appeal in markets where winter traction is less of a concern. Across the range, Nissan has adjusted standard equipment in response to customer feedback. The entry-level S now comes with Nissan Intelligent Key and privacy glass as standard. The SL trim gains Intelligent Key, roof rails and a vehicle security system. The LE now includes a dual panel moonroof, previously a $1,170 option, at no extra cost.
Equipment and options for 2010
Nissan has also streamlined the Murano’s exterior and interior colour combinations and revised its options packages. A new standalone accessory DVD player with integrated headrest screens is available for the SL and LE, following requests from customers for more rear-seat entertainment choices. The SL can also be specified with a Technology Package including a DVD entertainment system.

All 2010 Muranos feature six airbags as standard, including dual-stage front airbags, front-seat side-impact airbags and roof-mounted curtain airbags for both rows. Vehicle Dynamic Control with traction control is also standard across the range. The Murano’s rear end design includes a distinctive rear glass shape for improved visibility, large LED tail lamps and dual chrome exhaust outlets.
Position in Nissan’s crossover line-up
The Murano sits above the Rogue in Nissan’s US crossover range, offering more space and a higher level of equipment. The second-generation model, introduced for 2009, is pitched as a premium crossover, with a focus on comfort and technology rather than off-road ability. The 2010 update aims to keep the Murano competitive in a segment that includes rivals such as the Toyota Venza and Ford Edge.
Nissan’s decision to expand the LE trim to front-wheel drive reflects a broader trend among crossover buyers who prioritise equipment and comfort over all-weather capability. The addition of more standard features across the range and simplified options should help dealers tailor the Murano to a wider range of customers.
