Audi launches 2014 A3 Sedan and S3 Sedan with new engines and tech
Audi has officially revealed the 2014 A3 Sedan and high-performance S3 Sedan, bringing new powertrains and updated equipment to the compact saloon segment.
Audi has unveiled the 2014 A3 Sedan and S3 Sedan, expanding its compact range with a four-door saloon aimed at global markets. The new models are set to reach showrooms later in 2013, with German pricing for the A3 Sedan starting at €25,000.
A3 Sedan: dimensions, engines and equipment
The A3 Sedan measures 4,466 mm long, 1,796 mm wide and 1,416 mm high, with a 2,637 mm wheelbase. These dimensions put it close to the original A4, reflecting the segment's growth over two decades. Audi will offer the A3 Sedan with a choice of petrol and diesel engines at launch, including a 1.4-litre TFSI (140 hp, 250 Nm), a 1.8-litre TFSI (170 hp, 250 Nm) and a 2.0-litre TDI (150 hp, 320 Nm). A 2.0-litre TFSI will also be available, though detailed output figures were not disclosed at launch.
Standard equipment on the A3 Sedan includes leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, Audi's MMI infotainment system with a seven-inch display, Bluetooth connectivity, LED ambient lighting and an optional Bang & Olufsen audio system. The interior specification aims to match the hatchback variant, with added features to position the saloon as a premium alternative in the compact segment.
S3 Sedan: performance and styling upgrades
The S3 Sedan sits at the top of the new saloon range, powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine producing 300 hp (221 kW) and 380 Nm of torque. Audi claims a 0–100 km/h time of 5.3 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox, and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The S3 Sedan features a sport-tuned suspension that lowers ride height by 25 mm compared to the standard model.

Audi has also fitted the S3 Sedan with visual enhancements, including revised bumpers, new side skirts, a trunk spoiler and aluminium-finish mirror caps. These styling cues distinguish the S3 from the standard A3, while the interior receives sports seats and trim details specific to the S model.
Market context and competition
The A3 Sedan marks Audi's entry into a segment traditionally dominated by larger saloons, but now targeted by premium compacts. Its closest rivals include the Mercedes-Benz CLA and the BMW 1 Series Sedan in some markets. The S3 Sedan, meanwhile, extends Audi's S performance line into the compact four-door category, aiming at buyers seeking performance with everyday usability.
Production for both models will begin in 2013, with deliveries scheduled to follow in key global markets. Audi is positioning the A3 Sedan as a core product in its strategy to expand its compact model line-up.
