Ford Unveils 2014 Cobra Jet Mustang for NHRA Racing
Ford has revealed the 2014 Cobra Jet Mustang, a limited-run drag racer built for NHRA Stock and Super Stock, with only 50 units planned and a price tag just under $98,000.
Ford has introduced the 2014 Cobra Jet Mustang, a factory-built drag car designed for competition in NHRA Stock and Super Stock classes. Production will be limited to 50 units, each priced from $97,990 in the United States.
The 2014 Cobra Jet is based on the current Mustang platform but is not road legal. Ford Racing has focused on delivering consistent performance and reliability, drawing on four seasons of testing and customer feedback. The car is fitted with a 5.0-litre V8 engine paired with a 2.9-litre Whipple supercharger, driving the rear wheels through a new three-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain is aimed at providing the acceleration and repeatability required for drag racing.
Technical upgrades for the 2014 Cobra Jet
New for the 2014 model are an electric power steering system and a revised, track-oriented suspension setup. These updates are intended to improve both handling and consistency on the strip. The car also features an FIA-compliant roll cage and Recaro racing seats, reflecting its purpose-built nature. Safety and compliance with NHRA regulations remain central to the package.

The Cobra Jet nameplate has become a fixture in Ford’s drag racing activities, offering an off-the-shelf alternative to bespoke builds. The 2014 edition continues the tradition, benefitting from incremental improvements and customer feedback since the first modern Cobra Jet appeared in 2008. The car’s focus is on quarter-mile performance, and it is not intended for street use.
Ford Racing positions the 2014 Cobra Jet as the best value in the turnkey drag racing market, citing both its performance and its price point relative to rivals.
