Mercedes-Benz has released official images of the 2014 S-Class interior, providing an early look at the next generation’s cabin ahead of its public debut in Hamburg on 15 May 2013. The new S-Class is positioned to advance standards in luxury saloons, focusing on technological innovation, comfort, and premium materials.

Introduction to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Interior

Interior Design and Features

The centrepiece of the 2014 S-Class interior is a pair of 12.3-inch high-resolution screens, which dominate the dashboard. One screen serves as the digital instrument cluster, while the other manages infotainment and vehicle functions via the updated COMAND system. This layout creates a modern, uncluttered look, emphasising horizontal lines and reducing the number of physical buttons.

Luxury materials are used throughout the cabin. Nappa leather upholstery, extensive wood trim, and metal detailing are prominent, reinforcing the S-Class’s upmarket status. Additional touches such as illuminated door sills and soft-close doors further enhance the sense of quality. Rear passengers benefit from an upgraded entertainment system, and the seats have been redesigned for greater comfort. Enhanced ambient lighting contributes to the cabin’s refined atmosphere.

Safety and Technology Upgrades

The 2014 S-Class features the latest version of the PRE-SAFE safety suite, designed to prepare the vehicle and its occupants for potential collisions. While further details on active safety systems are expected at the official launch, the presence of PRE-SAFE highlights Mercedes-Benz’s continued focus on occupant protection. A panoramic glass roof is included, aiming to increase the sense of space and light within the cabin, and advanced driver assistance features are anticipated.

Model Range and Launch Details

At launch, the 2014 S-Class is expected to be available in several versions:

  • S350 BlueTEC diesel: 258hp (192kW)
  • S400 Hybrid: 326hp (243kW)
  • S500 petrol: 435hp (324kW)

Further variants are planned, including a more powerful S500, a plug-in hybrid with 355hp (265kW), and high-performance AMG models. The S63 AMG is anticipated to offer 571hp (426kW), with a 4MATIC version at 585hp (436kW). The range-topping S65 AMG V12 Biturbo, expected in 2015, will provide 650hp (485kW). The S250 Diesel has not been confirmed.

The official unveiling of the new S-Class will take place in Hamburg, with sales projected to begin later in 2013. The launch will mark the introduction of three new exterior colours: Ruby Black, Diamond Silver, and Anthracite Blue. Chromed exhaust pipes and a classic exterior silhouette complete the updates for the new generation.

Position in the Mercedes-Benz Range and Market

The S-Class remains the flagship saloon in the Mercedes-Benz line-up, positioned above both the E-Class and C-Class. With its redesigned interior and advanced features, the new model previews the direction of future Mercedes luxury vehicles. It will compete directly with established rivals such as the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, aiming to maintain Mercedes-Benz’s reputation for technological leadership and comfort in the luxury segment.
