Digital artist Theophilus Chin has produced a set of renderings that reimagine the 2015 Chrysler 300 as a utility coupe, blending the saloon’s familiar front with a two-door, coupe-like rear and a truncated load bay. Chrysler has never offered such a body style for the 300, and there is no suggestion the company ever intended to. The images are a speculative exercise, not a preview of any production model.
The 2015 Chrysler 300, unveiled at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, received a mild facelift over its predecessor. Changes included a larger front grille, sharper headlights and minor tweaks to the front and rear fascias. The interior gained an updated Uconnect infotainment system with a 7-inch display. The engine range carried over the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 and the 5.7-litre HEMI V8, with power outputs of 292 and 363hp respectively, depending on trim. Rear-wheel drive remained standard, with all-wheel drive as an option on V6 models.
Chin’s renderings take the facelifted front end and graft it onto a two-door coupe profile, finishing with a short, squared-off rear reminiscent of classic American utility coupes, sometimes called "utes" in Australia. The result is a vehicle that sits somewhere between a muscle coupe and a pickup, though with a far more car-like stance than any actual Chrysler utility vehicle. The design is not dissimilar in spirit to past renderings of other saloons reimagined as coupes or estates, a trend among digital artists exploring what established models might look like in body styles their manufacturers never pursued.
Why the utility coupe remains a digital exercise
Chrysler has never shown interest in offering a utility coupe variant of the 300. The market for such vehicles in North America is virtually non-existent, with the last mainstream utes disappearing decades ago. The 300’s platform, shared with the Dodge Charger, is engineered for saloon and estate formats, and the business case for a low-volume niche derivative would be weak. For fans of the 300, the renderings are a curiosity rather than a prospect.
