Bentley Bentayga debuts as world's most powerful SUV at Frankfurt
Bentley has introduced its first SUV, the Bentayga, at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, combining a 608hp W12 engine with high-end luxury and a £160,200 starting price.
Bentley has unveiled the Bentayga at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, marking its entry into the SUV segment with what it claims is the world’s most powerful production SUV. The Bentayga is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine, producing 608hp and 900Nm of torque. Bentley quotes a 0-100km/h time of just over four seconds and a top speed of 301km/h.
The Bentayga is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB platform, also used by the Audi Q7, but the Bentley stands apart with its focus on luxury and performance. The exterior design follows Bentley’s established language, with a prominent grille and strong lines, while the cabin features high-grade materials and advanced technology. Rear passengers can access a 10.2-inch tablet-based entertainment system, and the Naim audio system delivers 1,950 watts. Buyers can specify individual rear seats and a range of bespoke options.
Bentley has confirmed the W12 petrol as the initial engine, but further variants are expected. A V8 diesel and a plug-in hybrid have both been rumoured for future release, although no technical details or dates were given at Frankfurt. The Bentayga’s official fuel consumption is 12.8l/100km (22.1mpg UK), with CO2 emissions of 292g/km.

UK prices for the Bentayga start at £160,200. The model is positioned as a luxury flagship in the SUV sector, targeting buyers seeking both performance and comfort. Bentley’s move into the SUV market follows the concept stage with the EXP 9 F and extensive development. The Bentayga’s combination of speed, technology and craftsmanship puts it in direct competition with high-end rivals, but with a clear focus on the brand’s established clientele.
The Bentayga’s Frankfurt debut sets the stage for Bentley’s expansion beyond traditional grand tourers and saloons.
