Kia reveals 2015 Sorento ahead of Paris debut
The third-generation Kia Sorento has been officially unveiled, featuring new styling, increased dimensions and a longer wheelbase ahead of its Paris Motor Show premiere.
Kia has officially taken the covers off the 2015 Sorento, revealing the third generation of its large SUV ahead of its first public appearance at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014. The new Sorento arrives with updated styling, larger exterior dimensions and a longer wheelbase, aiming to build on the outgoing model’s popularity in Europe and other markets.
The new Sorento stands at 4,780 mm long and 1,685 mm tall, with a wheelbase measuring 2,780 mm. That’s an 80 mm increase in wheelbase compared to its predecessor, which should translate to improved cabin space, particularly for rear passengers. The overall length has grown by 95 mm, while the height is slightly reduced, contributing to a sleeker profile.
Kia’s latest design language is evident at the front, where the so-called tiger-nose grille adopts a three-dimensional diamond pattern. The front fascia is complemented by sweptback headlights, plastic body cladding, a gently sloping roofline and a tailgate-mounted spoiler. Chrome trim and updated detailing around the car further distinguish it from the outgoing model.
Styling and dimensions
The 2015 Sorento’s exterior changes are aimed at giving the SUV a more upmarket and assertive look. The increased length and lower roofline create a more streamlined silhouette, while the extended wheelbase is expected to offer tangible benefits for interior space and ride comfort. Kia says the new model also features revised body cladding and additional chrome detailing, which bring it closer in appearance to premium rivals.
Interior and engines remain under wraps
Although Kia has released a full set of exterior images, the company has not yet revealed the interior design of the new Sorento. Details on the updated cabin, equipment and technology are expected to follow closer to the car’s public unveiling. Similarly, the engine range for the European market has not been confirmed, though Kia is expected to offer a mix of petrol and diesel options, as with the outgoing model.
The 2015 Sorento will go on sale first in South Korea before arriving in European showrooms. Pricing and full specifications are due to be announced at the Paris Motor Show. The new model is positioned to compete with other large SUVs in the segment, including the Hyundai Santa Fe and various European rivals.
