2015 Mazda CX-5 facelift revealed ahead of LA debut
Leaked images show the updated Mazda CX-5 with revised styling, LED lighting and new wheels, ahead of its official launch at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Images of the facelifted 2015 Mazda CX-5 surfaced online shortly before the model’s scheduled debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, giving an early look at the Japanese manufacturer’s updated crossover.
The leaked photos confirm a series of visual changes for the mid-cycle update. The most noticeable revisions are at the front, where the CX-5 gains a reshaped grille and new LED headlights. LED technology also appears at the rear with redesigned taillights, while the lower bumper and fog lights have been refreshed. Mazda has also introduced new alloy wheel designs to further distinguish the facelift from the outgoing model.
Exterior changes for 2015
Mazda’s KODO design language remains central to the CX-5’s appearance, but the facelift brings the crossover closer in line with newer models in the range. The sharper grille and lighting signatures echo recent Mazda releases, while subtle tweaks to the bumpers and wheels give the car a more contemporary look. These changes are intended to keep the CX-5 competitive in the crowded compact SUV segment, where visual updates often drive showroom interest.
No major changes under the bonnet
According to the information available at the time of the leak, the 2015 CX-5 is set to carry over its existing engine line-up in the United States. This means buyers can expect the 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 155hp and 203Nm of torque, as well as the more powerful 2.5-litre SKYACTIV-G unit with 184hp and 250Nm. Transmission options and drivetrain layouts are also expected to remain unchanged, with both front- and all-wheel drive available.
No details have emerged regarding changes to the interior or additional equipment, though Mazda typically uses such facelifts to update infotainment and trim. More information is expected at the official unveiling in Los Angeles.
Position in the market
The CX-5 has been a central model for Mazda since its introduction, offering a balance of efficiency, practicality and driving dynamics. The facelifted version aims to maintain the model’s appeal against rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape, both of which have also received updates in recent years. With no change to the engine line-up, Mazda appears to be relying on design and equipment upgrades to extend the CX-5’s competitiveness until an all-new model arrives.
