2016 Lincoln MKX debuts at Detroit with new engines and tech
Lincoln unveiled the production 2016 MKX at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, introducing new powertrains, advanced driver assistance features and a revised interior.
Lincoln took the wraps off the production 2016 MKX at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, marking a key update for its midsize luxury SUV. The new MKX arrives with fresh styling, a choice of two V6 engines and an expanded suite of technology aimed at premium buyers.
Engines and performance
Buyers can choose between a naturally aspirated 3.7-litre V6 producing 300hp and 379Nm of torque, or a new 2.7-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 rated at 330hp and 501Nm. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox and can be specified with optional all-wheel drive. The EcoBoost engine, shared in part with other Ford models, is aimed at drivers seeking more power without moving up to a larger vehicle.
Interior and technology upgrades
Inside, the 2016 MKX adopts a floating centre console, metallic accents, wood trim and premium leather upholstery. Lincoln has focused on comfort and convenience, offering 22-way adjustable front seats and a Revel audio system as options. The infotainment system features a touchscreen interface, while the MyLincoln Mobile app enables remote vehicle functions.

Safety and driver assistance
Lincoln has added a comprehensive set of driver assistance features to the MKX. Buyers can specify adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert and a 360-degree camera. The model also offers parking assistance for both parallel and perpendicular spaces, along with pre-collision assist and an Auto Hold function for stop-and-go traffic.
Position in the premium SUV segment
With its latest update, the MKX aims to compete more directly with rivals such as the Lexus RX and Cadillac SRX. The combination of new engines, upgraded interior materials and a broader range of safety technology is intended to strengthen Lincoln’s position in the crowded midsize luxury SUV class. Pricing is expected to be announced later in 2015, ahead of the model’s arrival in showrooms.
