Volkswagen’s next-generation Passat has broken cover ahead of schedule, with fresh images and technical details surfacing online via a leaked presentation just weeks before its planned official reveal.
The leaked slides confirm that the B8-generation Passat will measure 4,767mm in length and shed 85kg compared to its predecessor, thanks to the adoption of the MQB platform. The weight saving is expected to bring efficiency and handling improvements across the range.
For the first time in the Passat, Volkswagen will offer a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to the unit used in the Audi TT, alongside a head-up display. The leaked material also shows the inclusion of full LED headlights, Dynamic Light Assist, a 360-degree camera system, park assist and a new trailer assist function. These features position the Passat closer to premium territory in terms of in-car technology and driver aids.
Engine range and emissions compliance
The 2015 Passat’s engine line-up will cover petrol units from 1.4 to 2.0 litres, all meeting Euro 6 emissions standards. The entry-level 1.4 TSI will be offered in 125hp and 150hp versions, with the latter featuring Active Cylinder Technology to improve fuel economy by shutting down two cylinders under light load. Above these, a 1.8 TSI delivers 180hp, while a pair of 2.0 TSI engines will provide 220hp and 280hp respectively. Volkswagen is also preparing a hybrid variant, though details on its launch timing remain unconfirmed.
