Cadillac has officially pulled the wraps off the 2016 ATS-V Coupe and Sedan, confirming both body styles will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Powertrain and Transmission Options

At the heart of the ATS-V is the 3.6-litre V6 with twin turbochargers. Buyers can select either a six-speed manual gearbox equipped with active rev matching or opt for an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Although Cadillac has not released final performance figures, the powertrain is the most powerful yet fitted to an ATS, signalling a significant leap in performance for the model range.

Exterior Design and Aerodynamics

Both the coupe and saloon variants of the ATS-V feature a more aggressive exterior compared to the standard ATS. Notable styling elements include a mesh grille, large air intakes, a ventilated carbon-fibre bonnet, a front splitter, aerodynamic side skirts, and a prominent rear spoiler. The quad-exit exhaust system and 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, further enhance the car’s performance-focused appearance.

Chassis and Performance Upgrades

Under the skin, the ATS-V benefits from several significant upgrades. Magnetic Ride Control adaptive dampers come as standard, providing improved handling and ride quality. The car is also equipped with an electronic slip differential and a Brembo braking system for enhanced stopping power. For buyers seeking even greater performance, Cadillac offers a Carbon Fibre package, which adds additional aerodynamic components and carbon-fibre trim, as well as a Track package that includes a performance data recorder and a lightweight battery.

Interior Features and Equipment

Inside, the ATS-V retains much of the standard ATS layout but introduces several performance-oriented enhancements. These include Recaro performance seats upholstered in leather and suede-effect microfiber, carbon-fibre interior accents, and a unique instrument cluster featuring V-series graphics. The overall effect is a cabin that reflects the car’s sporting credentials while maintaining Cadillac’s focus on comfort and quality.

Market Position and Availability

The ATS-V will reach showrooms in spring 2015, positioned above the regular ATS in Cadillac’s line-up. With its combination of power, advanced chassis technology, and assertive styling, Cadillac is targeting buyers who might otherwise consider performance saloons and coupes from German manufacturers. Pricing and detailed performance statistics have not yet been disclosed by the brand.

For readers interested in the evolution of the ATS range, additional information on the previous generation can be found in coverage of the 2014 Detroit Motor Show, where the ATS Coupe was first introduced.

The unveiling of the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe and Sedan marks an important step for Cadillac as it seeks to expand its presence in the high-performance market segment. With its new engine, upgraded chassis, and aggressive design, the ATS-V is positioned to appeal to enthusiasts and luxury car buyers alike.
