Dodge has confirmed it will more than double production of the Charger SRT Hellcat and Challenger SRT Hellcat for the 2016 model year, following a surge in demand that left many 2015 orders unfulfilled. All unscheduled orders for the 2015 Hellcat models will be cancelled, with affected customers offered discounted pricing if they reorder for 2016.

The decision addresses the backlog created after Dodge froze Hellcat orders due to overwhelming demand. Many buyers who placed orders for the 2015 models never saw their cars built as supply ran out. For 2016, Dodge aims to simplify the ordering process and ensure more customers receive their cars without delays.

2016 Hellcat: Features and Powertrain

Both the 2016 Charger SRT Hellcat and Challenger SRT Hellcat continue with the 6.2-litre supercharged HEMI V8, producing 707hp (527kW) and 880Nm (650lb-ft) of torque. The cars remain the most powerful production saloon and coupe Dodge has offered, with no changes to engine output or performance figures for the new model year.

For 2016, Dodge adds several features as standard, including Laguna Leather upholstery, five years of SiriusXM Travel Link and Traffic, HD radio, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with GPS navigation. These updates bring the 2016 models in line with customer expectations for high-end muscle cars, while the core mechanical package remains unchanged.

Order Process and Customer Impact

Dodge will cancel any unbuilt 2015 Hellcat orders and offer those customers special pricing on the 2016 model year if they choose to reorder. This move is designed to address frustration among buyers who missed out in 2015, while the increased production should reduce waiting times for new customers. Pricing details for the 2016 models had not been announced at the time of Dodge’s statement.

The Charger SRT Hellcat and Challenger SRT Hellcat remain unavailable in Europe, with Dodge confirming the Hellcat range is for the US market only. For more on that decision, see Dodge Confirms No Charger or Challenger SRT Hellcat for Europe.
