Infiniti has confirmed it will reveal the 2016 QX50 at the New York International Auto Show, marking a notable update for the midsize premium crossover. The new QX50 receives a wheelbase stretch of more than three inches, a change aimed at increasing rear legroom and overall interior space.

The exterior updates include a revised front bumper, new side skirts, a higher ride height, a redesigned rear bumper and a fresh set of wheels. These changes are intended to give the QX50 a more contemporary look and a stance better suited to the tastes of premium crossover buyers.

Infiniti has not released images or detailed technical specifications for the 2016 QX50 ahead of the show. The company has also not confirmed whether the engine lineup or interior design will change from the current model. Based on official statements, the focus for this update is on increasing comfort and space rather than introducing new powertrains or cabin layouts.

Longer wheelbase targets rear comfort

The QX50’s extended wheelbase is expected to improve rear passenger accommodation, addressing a common criticism of the outgoing model. Infiniti claims the extra length will translate directly into more legroom and greater interior volume, aligning the car more closely with rivals in the segment.

The 2016 QX50 is scheduled to reach showrooms in autumn 2015, with further details to be released during its New York debut. Infiniti is positioning the revised model to compete more effectively in the highly competitive premium crossover market, where increased interior space and updated styling are critical to attracting buyers.
