BMW unveils 2018 M5 with M Performance Parts at SEMA
BMW used the 2017 SEMA show to debut a full suite of M Performance Parts for the new 2018 M5, focusing on carbon fibre aerodynamics and track-inspired upgrades.
BMW presented the 2018 M5 fitted with a comprehensive range of M Performance Parts at the 2017 SEMA show in Las Vegas, confirming a production-ready package of aerodynamic, chassis and cosmetic upgrades for its latest high-performance saloon.
Carbon fibre aero and chassis upgrades
The M Performance Parts package for the F90-generation M5 centres on carbon fibre components developed for both function and appearance. The kit includes a front bumper attachment, extended side sills, a rear spoiler and a new rear diffuser, all in visible carbon. Additional carbon fibre elements cover the mirror caps, front grille trim and air breather side grilles. BMW says these parts reduce weight and sharpen the car’s visual identity, while also providing aerodynamic benefit.
Chassis modifications include an M Performance coilover suspension with red springs and adjustable spring plates, allowing owners to tailor the ride height and handling. The car on display also featured M Performance carbon ceramic brakes, paired with racing-derived pads for improved track durability and stopping power.
Exhaust and interior details
For North American buyers, BMW introduced an M Performance sports exhaust system made from titanium, with optional carbon fibre tailpipe trims. This exhaust is exclusive to the US and Canada, and is designed to enhance both sound and weight reduction.
Inside, the M5 gains a steering wheel trimmed in Alcantara and carbon fibre, with matching shift paddles and gear lever. A carbon fibre engine cover and M-coloured body stripes complete the package, reinforcing the car’s motorsport connection.
