Fiat 500X quietly refreshed for 2018 with new tech and colours
Fiat’s 500X crossover gains subtle exterior tweaks, extra paint options and upgraded infotainment for the 2018 model year, but the mechanicals remain unchanged.
Fiat has introduced a discreet update for the 500X crossover for the 2018 model year, focusing on new interior technology and minor cosmetic changes rather than any overhaul of the car’s mechanical package.
The 500X, which shares its underpinnings with the Jeep Renegade, continues to target buyers seeking a compact SUV with city car styling. For 2018, Fiat has added two new exterior paint options, Donatello Bronze and Alpi Matte Green, previously seen on the S-Design. The range is split across five trim levels: Pop, Pop Star, Lounge, Cross and City Cross, each with new customisation options for the new year.
Interior and infotainment upgrades
Inside, the main change is a new seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen, now standard across the line-up. The system supports Apple CarPlay and runs FCA’s latest Uconnect software, which includes Bluetooth, hands-free audio streaming, a text message reader and voice recognition. Both auxiliary and USB inputs are provided. Buyers can add a rear parking camera and TomTom 3D navigation as optional extras.
The Uconnect Live app, available on both iOS and Android, extends the system’s functionality with music streaming from Deezer and TuneIn, news updates, TomTom Live navigation services and social media integration. This aligns the 500X with rivals offering connected services in the compact crossover segment.
No powertrain changes for 2018
Fiat has made no changes to the 500X’s engine range or chassis for 2018. The update is aimed at keeping the model competitive through added tech and fresh personalisation options, rather than altering performance or driving dynamics.
