Acura TLX gains GT appearance package for 2016 and 2017
Acura has introduced a GT appearance pack for the 2016 and 2017 TLX, offering buyers a set of sporty visual upgrades without performance changes.
Acura has released a GT appearance package for the TLX, targeting the 2016 and 2017 model years with a suite of styling upgrades designed to give the saloon a sportier look. The new pack, announced ahead of its SEMA show appearance, is available for all TLX variants and is purely cosmetic, with no changes to the car’s engines or chassis.
The basic GT Package, priced at $1,717, brings a subtle rear bootlid spoiler, a revised rear bumper insert, more pronounced side sills and a new front splitter. For those wanting a more complete transformation, the GT Package Plus Wheel and Tire Kit adds a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, but raises the price to $4,810. Both packages are aimed at buyers seeking a more aggressive stance without stepping up to a full performance model.
No change to TLX performance or drivetrains
Acura’s GT package leaves the TLX’s mechanicals untouched. The sedan continues with its choice of a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine producing 206 hp, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, or a 3.5-litre V6 delivering 290 hp with a nine-speed automatic. The V6 can be specified with either front- or all-wheel drive. The new appearance pack is compatible with all these variants.
Acura’s move mirrors a wider trend among manufacturers to offer visual upgrade packs for mainstream models, following similar launches by rivals such as Dodge with its Durango appearance packs. The GT Package gives TLX buyers a way to personalise their car’s looks without the cost or insurance implications of a full performance variant.
