A digital rendering of the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Sportwagon has surfaced, igniting speculation about a high-performance estate variant of the brand’s new rear-wheel-drive saloon. The image, which shows the Giulia QV with a long-roof body, privacy glass, blue paint, red brake calipers and unique alloy wheels, quickly spread across enthusiast sites and social media in August 2015.
Alfa Romeo had only just revealed the Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) saloon as the successor to the 159, powered by a Ferrari-derived 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6. The QV’s 503hp output and claimed 3.9-second 0-62mph time put it directly up against the BMW M3, Mercedes-AMG C63 S and Cadillac ATS-V. At launch, only the saloon body was confirmed for production, with no official word on an estate. The rendering, attributed to RM Design, suggests what a Giulia QV Sportwagon could look like, drawing on Alfa’s history of offering fast estates such as the 156 and 159 Sportwagon models.
No confirmation from Alfa Romeo
Alfa Romeo has not confirmed any plans to produce a Giulia Sportwagon, let alone a high-performance QV variant. The brand’s focus at the time was on establishing the Giulia saloon, with further variants or body styles unannounced. The 159, which the Giulia replaced, was available as an estate, making the idea of a new Sportwagon plausible but unsubstantiated by the company.
The Giulia QV’s technical details, 503hp, rear-wheel drive, and a 3.9-second sprint, are confirmed for the saloon only. Enthusiasts hoping for a practical estate with similar performance will have to wait for any official word from Alfa Romeo. For now, the Sportwagon remains a digital creation, not a production model.
Why the idea appeals to enthusiasts
Alfa Romeo’s previous Sportwagon models, particularly the 156 and 159, found favour with buyers wanting a blend of style, performance and practicality. A Giulia QV Sportwagon would offer a direct rival to fast estates from BMW and Mercedes, but no prototype has been spotted and Alfa’s official communications have not mentioned such a variant. The digital render has nonetheless fuelled discussion among fans and industry watchers.
