Fresh digital renderings give a glimpse of Alfa Romeo’s upcoming SUV, which is expected to share its platform and engines with the Giulia saloon.
Alfa Romeo’s long-anticipated entry into the premium SUV segment has taken another step with the release of new renderings, showing a Giulia-inspired design for the Italian brand’s first crossover. The images, produced by RMCarDesign, preview a model set to compete with established rivals such as the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5.
The renderings suggest the SUV will adopt the rear-wheel-drive Giorgio platform, already underpinning the Giulia. This architecture supports both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations, which would allow Alfa Romeo to offer a range of powertrains. Sources indicate the engine lineup is likely to mirror that of the Giulia, including four-cylinder petrol and diesel units, with the possibility of a high-performance turbocharged V6 at the top of the range. That engine, developed with input from Ferrari, produces around 500hp in the Giulia Quadrifoglio, and could give Alfa Romeo’s SUV a direct answer to the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and Audi SQ5.
